Cocoa powder: Choose high-quality cocoa powder for rich chocolaty flavors in your waffle. You can use dark cocoa powder for more intense flavors. Add chocolate chips for more chocolaty goodness. 

Raw sugar adds a subtle molasses-like tone and slight crunch to the waffle. You can use brown, coconut, or granulated sugar as an alternative.

Canola oil: It keeps the waffles moist and tender. You can use melted butter, olive oil, or other natural oils instead. 

Whole milk provides a creamy and soft base to the waffle batter. You can substitute skim milk or other non-dairy alternatives like oat or almond milk.

How To Make Chocolate Belgian Waffles?

1. Begin making dough for the waffle

Put flour, baking powder, sea salt, cocoa, and flour in a bowl and sift them.

Mix egg yolk, vanilla essence, oil, whole milk, melted butter, and raw sugar in another bowl.

Combine the dry and wet ingredients until you achieve a silky smooth batter.

Beat egg whites till fluffy peaks and add to the batter.

2. Cook the waffles

Drop a tablespoon of pancake mixture onto the iron and cook on both sides over medium heat for a few minutes.

Ingredients

  • 1 ¾ cup all-purpose flour sifted
  • cup high-quality cocoa powder sifted
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon sea salt
  • 2 eggs separated
  • ¾ cup raw sugar
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • cup canola oil
  • cup butter melted
  • 1 ¼ cup whole milk
  • 1 cup mixed berries for serving strawberries, blueberries & raspberries
  • whipped cream for serving

How to Make?

  • Put the cocoa flour, baking soda, and sea salt into a large bowl.
  • In a separate bowl, combine the egg yolks, butter and oil, raw sugar (or raw sugar substitute), milk, and vanilla.
  • Combine the ingredients.
  • Beat the whites of the eggs until they soften.
  • Mix the batter gently.
  • Pour one teaspoon of waffle mixture into the waffle-iron using a spoon or spatula. Spread it evenly.
  • Let it simmer on medium heat for one minute per side.
  • When serving, sprinkle on chocolate sauce and cream whip.
